Our research on neurodivergence and common mental health challenges seeks to help understand and identify these conditions and their common co-occurrence across development, in order to promote better life outcomes.

Our lab takes an interdisciplinary and joined-up (transdiagnostic) approach to these conditions and broadly focuses on two main strands:
1. Our translational research investigates the biological (e.g., genetic, brain) and socio-environmental processes underlying neurodivergent and mental health conditions across development. For example, we investigate why many neurodivergent people struggle with their mental health to identify early predictors, biomarkers and treatment targets.
2. Our applied research focuses on neurodivergent people's lived experiences and barriers to recognition of neurodivergent and mental health conditions, in order to improve early identification and support. For example, we are developing new tools to assess mental health and neurodivergent traits in young people.
We enjoy co-producing research with people with lived experience and charities to increase the impact of our work. We also have a wide international network and are leading or closely involved in projects and initiatives for the Hierarchical Taxonomy of Psychopathology (HiTOP) international consortium and European Network for ADHD (EUNETHYDIS).
